What the spread actually means

The climate column is the one coaches read first. The four sealed venues — Dallas, Atlanta, Houston and Vancouver — guarantee identical conditions whatever the calendar says, which is exactly why the semifinals live in two of them. Open-air Texas, Missouri and Florida in late June are a different sport: hydration windows, slower pressing, more rotation.

Altitude is the quieter variable. Mexico City sits at roughly 7,300 feet and Guadalajara near 5,000 — thinner air that carries the ball faster and drains unacclimated legs, a detail every visiting team in Group A planning has circled. The official specs for each building live on FIFA’s venue directory.

The verdict

If you are chasing tickets, Toronto and Guadalajara offer the most intimate soccer; if you want spectacle at scale, Dallas is untouchable. And if you are a player? You want your knockout path running through air conditioning.
